There have been more than a few shoots that have put me in a room with someone that had I not become a photographer I would have never met–and even in that room could hardly imagine I was meeting, part of my amazing job. Mary Tyler Moore was one of these people. So too Douglas Sirk, Joseph Beuys, W.S. Merwin, Jimmy Stewart, Olivia de Havilland (who also amazed Sean, when upon introduction she said, “pleasure, young man”), Paul Cadmus, Joseph Mankiewicz .
And the great actor Peter O’Toole–although he was much older when I photographed him than when he dazzled as T. E. Lawrence in David Lean wide-screen epic, “Lawrence of Arabia,” his brilliant blue eyes and incomparable voice were unchanged.
