Thanks to an innovative marketing campaign (including a call for a boycott of the film by director of “The Avengers,” Joss Whedon), Mike Birbiglia’s much-lauded, well-travelled (premiered at SXSW, screened at festivals in Provincetown, Seattle, Sundance, Boston and opened this year’s BAMcinemaFest), “Sleewalk With Me” will find its way to a theater near you. This indie that could is currently booked to screen in 122 cities.
Birbiglia’s directorial debut (which he wrote and stars in) originated as a one-man, Off-Broadway show, a fictionalized account of a high anxiety period in his life. His begins his tale: “I’m going to tell you a story, and it’s true….I always have to tell people that”.
I recently photographed Mike Birbiglia for the cover of the current issue of Back Stage— such a fun shoot, thanks to friendly, funny, game Mike Birbiglia, Mark Peikert, N.Y. Bureau Chief for Back Stage, Sara Sampson from Brigade Marketing, and hair and makeup artist Ivy Ermert.
