Redacted

Please see (below) an e-mail exchange I had yesterday.  (I’m kind of proud of myself, more, I know, than is deserved–really not even a small blow was inflicted on the other side but it was satisfying.)  I’ve redacted the name and job title of the person who made the photo request yesterday–somehow I doubt the staffer who e-mailed from Fox is Roger Ailes’ ideological twin–maybe more like he/she (like everyone) needs a job.

Hi, Robin, hoping I can use your photo of Howard Zinn (from here <http://www.howardzinn.org/> ) for a memorial gallery of influential people lost in 2010.  Would that be okay?

Thanks,

Hi, J.
As a card-carrying member of the ACLU and MoveOn and a long-time photographer for Bill Moyers (the portrait of Howard Zinn was originally shot for Bill Moyers’ Journal), I have to decline your request to reproduce my portrait.
Happy new year.
Best,
Robin

Continue Howard Zinn’s work of non-violent protest and freedom of information. Like he said, “we all have an enormous responsibility to bring to the attention of others information they do not have, which has the potential of causing them to rethink long-held ideas.” Or like E.M Forster said shorter in some book, “Only connect.” One way to start would be:

Step 1: Dip your toes in the dark side (you’re soaking in it) http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Darknet
Step 2: Become a Tor relay (Read about it. Do it.) http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Dec-2010/msg00206.html
Step 3: Check out the sauce on Tunisia at http://blogs.ndi.org/blog/2011/01/whats-happening-tunisia
    Step 4: ???????
    Step 5: PROFIT
Step 6: Rinse and Repeat as needed.

Don’t induce epic bawwwwing by watching our civil liberties go down the drain. Achieve some lulz by keeping them safe.

Professor Zinn would have been proud. And I am indeed, PROUD!
